Mercredi 3o janvier

That's when the sounds and grammar come together to help grasp the essence of French. Today we worked on that " -é " that appears at the end of past participles, the challenge being the acute accent. So we practiced with a few sentences to get the pattern right: "J'ai ----é". Then, again, using that theme game, we worked on vocabulary and spelling, here the challenge being to find a food item starting with d-.

Mercredi 23 janvier

In order to have them use their acquired vocabulary, and then to see how challenging it could be for them to retrieve it from their memory and to write it down, the kids played a little theme game. We then worked on basic vowel sounds and spelling. Whenever time permits, if you child can read in French, encourage him/her to do so, it's the best time in their life to naturally develop their knowledge in that language.

Mercredi 16 janvier

After asking the students to write their stories on paper, we worked on sounds and spelling; indeed, French sounds can be tricky thus making spelling confusing. We started with the basic vowel sounds for the kids to recognize and to use in words. Then ended the class with a little theme game: one theme, one initial letter, one word, not no obvious.

Bonne Année !! Happy New Year to everybody !!
After 3 weeks away and a wonderful Christmas Break, the kids had a lot to share about their time and the fun they experienced. So each one shared orally and then we tried to write down what we could during our class time. A lot of vocabulary appeared to help make interesting sentences. You can ask your child to read the written paragraph to you, and why not, you can try to develop it in order to keep the flow of words coming out.

Mercredi 19 décembre

One week before Christmas, we worked on making an illustrated card to the kids' parents, with a little poem inside. And slowly but surely the end arrived and all the classes had a little celebration with the children singing "Petit Papa Noël". Everybody had much fun and was ready for Christmas break.
See you next year!

Mercredi 12 décembre

After orally sharing their week in a few sentences, the students tried to write what they just shared. The objective is to work on spelling, new words and practice with our High-Frequency Words, among other things. It is also to work on expressing ourselves before diving deeper into grammar requirements.

Mercredi o5 décembre

We read a tale everyone knew: Le Petit Chaperon Rouge, and we worked together on how to extract the important ideas to put them on paper. Language experts agree that reading (that is exposure to French sounds) is the key, so read to your child as often as you can. What if you cannot? The Santa Cruz Public Library website offers French books, read online!! that your child can listen to while you are doing something else. They can be found in the Tumblebook section, I will tell you more about it next time. And to finish the day, the kids got their Green-Belt words!!
